Aaron's Journal, Part One
I have to remember that the small parties are usually more lethal than any of the others. What a disastrous evening... The only thing that actually made it better was that there actually was a threat from something that could harm Amber.
Okay, I'll admit I really wasn't looking forward to this evening. I finally received a book that I had one of the library attendants looking for me, and I just wanted to curl up tonight, maybe play some music, and stay in for a long night of study. Maybe I would have joined some of the other lesser nobles for a small dinner, but that was about the extent. And then I found this invitation for "Bringing Telluria into the Silver Circle" thing. And mother wanted to send me AND Lore to it, together. Basically a saving face gesture. I can see her line now to whoever tried to force her to go personally, "Oh, my dearest condolences I am afraid I cannot attend, but let my dear children Lore and Aaron go in my stead." I guess I shouldn't be annoyed - I'm sure that I'll have to ask her for a cover up favor, and it will all smooth out later on. One of these days I'll get out of doing these petty court games.
Then I get there, seven sharp. Of course, Lore is there stirring things up - it's a little unnerving, since it wasn't his usual bored self, it was definitely something more planned. And when he decides he's going to accomplish something, he's going to get it done whether anyone likes it or not. I wish sometimes I had gotten some more social wit like he did, but then I guess I wouldn't be nearly as far in my studies of the Pattern then. Just maybe be as stupid as he was... God, I wish he wouldn't be such a jerk.
All of the usual Nobles for such a function were there. Father Phillip, Regis Cantell, Tardac - all milling around doing their social dances. And Lore was in there as well, like a whore-net. And was he ever armed with a stinger - the late Fumaris. More on that in a moment. He was doing attack swoops on the new Ambassador to Telluria... this (man? I'm going to assume he was a man. God I wish they would have reported to people on what exactly IT was. I mean, what the hell are the social interactions do's and taboos with a new alien species that look much akin to, well, a cross of gorilla and burly sailor thugs. Wonder what the women are like...) Well, whatever he was at least pleasant to talk to, if not a bit stuffy. Of course, he wasn't giving away any ideas on how he was going to proceed as to being an ambassador for his shadow. I'm tempted to volunteer some of my time in helping him get established, like making some more shadow pathways or something, but that's when the hell started.
Wait, before I go into that, (I'm jumping ahead of myself - it's pretty bad, but I want to keep this in some order, otherwise I just talk about how this guy died and everything else will seem like blathering extras.) I have to tell about these two characters - they really are - that were at the party. Well, technically three, but she doesn't really count. The first one was Calisera. I couldn't believe it! This... girl was doing a bit - too - much with the desperate for husband act. I was so tempted to tell her right there to get a real life, and actually care about something, and then when she was done with that we'll talk. She had nice tits though, well, they were nice when she wasn't trying to spear me with one of them. I wish I didn't brush her off so ... so... what's the word? Give her such a bad excuse to leave her stranded? Going for punch... what a weak line. She didn't deserve that kind of treatment, but then again if I wanted breasts thrusted at me I could just go out to shadow. Who cares if they're real or not.
Then there was Theron. Inquisitor Theron. Now, there's someone who has the steel rod surgically inserted, and they ask it to hurt to remind them constantly. I do believe people that... tight are genetically grown - I think it to be impossible that they ever had a childhood. He did seem to have a personal - Did he have a personal interest in the new ambassador? It's hard to say. Probably trying to keep tabs on him in case he was the one who actually caused all this. I really hope not, it would not be good to go to war with another shadow.
Shoot, so Lore was showing around Fumaris. This noble obviously had a problem with him being accepted into the silver circle. He was this ancient guy that was still living back in ancient times. And he dies! Right there in front of King Random, all blue-faced. I found out a bit later that the anesthetic that Len's shadow produces could also be used as a poison? Everyone was thinking that at first - until the body came back to life.
One of the things I really hate about shadow Earth is movies. I love to watch them, but I hate it when they eventually become true in one way or another. So, Fumaris turns into a reality sucking Zombie.
Who Knew?
And then it came after me. That thing - whatever it used to be - scared the bejezus out of me for a bit. Whatever he got infected with, I would really hate to see on a army scale, sucking away reality like that.
It's bizarre. This... thing - whatever he was affected with, being able to suck in or destroy reality like that. I'm thinking it either has to do something with Chaos or maybe something farther out than that? Who knows. It's impossible to know now since I don't even have a slight sample of what he got hit with. Well, a fight broke out - whatever you can call it. I mostly just held the door shut while I was trying to figure out what it could do. By the way, it can suck out the reality from objects as well as people... wonderful.
And there was that woman with the sword - where did she get it from? And where did she put it when she was finished? Well, she was good with it, to say the least. So, I shared a glass of wine with her after the whole ordeal. She's okay, I guess. I would lead to think there's more to her that meets the eye, but it's so subtle that there's no desire for me to figure out what exactly that secret something is.
Now that I think about it, that was the whole party - well, except for the zombie. Okay, life threats always intrigue me to figure out what's up with them. There's the statement of the century.
Well, I guess for the future I plan to find out what that thing was, and find out more about that shadow that Len is from. I could always spy, I guess - Unless they somehow have figured a way to detect a Pattern lens. Probably will pop up as some spacial anomaly to them.
It leads me to wonder are they all like that? Fuzzy and somewhat misshaped? If they have that futuristic of travel and such odd appearances I really must investigate more. Maybe I can get Len to give me a tour?
