Egon and Pete ride on Iggy's back to the waters near Amber, and there they commandeer the ship, paying with gold that was magically conjured while suspiciously behind giant Iggy. Egon and Pete magically disguise themselves and prowl around Amber. In the process, the discover Martin present, but not Gerard, and Flora is living back in the castle, looking just fine. Egon meets with Llewella and discusses the deadness of Merlin. Egon beats around atop Kolvir, and near the Grove of the Unicorn he encounters what he believes is the Unicorn. In reality, the Unicorn was a fake one with the message "Thank you for visiting the Grove of the Unicorn" or some similar non-sense from the Church of the Unicorn. Egon launches it into Castle Amber. Egon finally gets in touch with Aramis, and learns that Martin wanted to know where Brand was, but says little else regarding his ordeal. At the full moon, Egon goes up to Tir-na Nog'th by teleporting to the Chamber of the Pattern. There, Egon discovers Caine in hiding, and learns that Arawn has quite the business in bringing back the dead. Caine goes back into hiding just as Arawn and the ghost of Eric arrive. Egon meets with Arawn, who no longer appears to remember him, due to some metaphysical quirk (which Arawn discovers after summoning Oberon's ghost to talk to him) Egon makes a truce with Arawn. Arawn returns the moon, and Egon gives Arawn his left arm from the elbow down. Egon is now a hero in Weirmonken.
